KOM client Ernestas Setkus has made himself a hero this season with Hapoel Haifa staff and fans alike after a series of sterling performances between the sticks for the side from the Israeli port city of Haifa. The club are comfortably having their best season since winning their only solitary Ligat Haal title during the 1998/1999 season. This year they sit 4th in league just 5 points of the leaders Hapoel Beersheba as the teams head into the final straight of the season. However, in the cup they have exceeded all expectations reaching the final for the first time in 14 years.
Ernestas had a fantastic semi final, being the talisman on more than one occasion to keep his side in it against fellow Premier League side Hapeol Ranana. It was during the penalty shootout though that Ernestas really wrote himself into Hapoel Haifa folklore, saving 3 of Ranana’s 6 penalty kicks. Hapoel will now face Beitar Jerusalem in The Teddy Stadium in Jerusalem on the 9th May, as they aim to bring the State cup back to Haifa and go one better than the last time they reached the final in 2004, when they lost to Bnei Sakhnin.
